Many people are beginning to utilize the spray tanning services like Mystic Tan and VersaSpa in order to keep the overall appearance of a bronzed look, but without the use of the sun or a traditional tanning bed. Spray tanning is fantastic and safe, utilizing pigments that are applied to your skin in order to change the appearance without ultraviolet rays, and are quickly becomming the choice of tanners who are looking for an "instant" tan. There are many questions regarding the process that we have been asked over the years, and we would like to present the facts below so you can understand how it all works.
Will using a spray tanning system protect me from sunburn? The answer is no. There are no "built-in" sunscreens in spray tan systems, including VersaSpa. If you are going to venture into the sunshine for an extended period of time, you must protect yourself with a sunscreen, no matter how many times you have spray tanned. How dark can a spray tan make me?While all skin is different, the easiest way to answer this question is that everyone can get nearly any level of color they desire, depending on the type of skin you have. Some people may be very dark after a single session, and others may only be slightly golden. These people will need to use the system multiple times in order to build up a darker color as their skin becomes used to the pigments. Consult our trained staff as to the expected outcomes of your sessions based on your skin type. Are the tanning solutions used in spray tanning safe? The FDA has approved all the solutions we use in our VersaSpa system, and there has been nothing found that is harmful in any way. This is not to say that all tanning solutions are safe, however. Many other systems utilize solutions that have not been tested, and some can contain up to 40 chemicles that may be potentially harmful to your skin. Always ask if the system that you will be using is FDA certified. How long does a spray tan last?Spray tans can last various lengths of time based upon how you prepare your skin before the session and how you take care of it afterward. In general, most spray tans last between 5 and 10 days, but after your skin gets used to spray tanning, you should hold the color longer. What can I do to make my spray tan last longer? The length of time your tan will last depends on how well you prepared before the session, and how you take care of your skin after the session. The most important aspect is to exfoliate before the session. The shallower the dead skin layer is, the longer it will take to fully build up and shed off. This means that the more perfectly you exfoliate your skin before spray tanning, the more even your tan will be and the longer it will last before fading. Additionally, moisturizing your skin every day will prevent premature exfoliation through drying. Ask our trained staff which exfoliants and moisturizers are suggested to get the best results.
